Printed batteries could triple EV range
An article in the Economist takes a look at Planar Energy of Orlando USA who claim to have cracked printing lithium ion batteries directly onto metal or plastic using a process similar to a conventional printing press. This could hold the key to increasing battery storage for electric vehicles between 3 and 4 times, solving the current range restrictions.

Britain launches smart grid project
Plans for Britain’s largest smart-grid project have been released. The project encompasses 14,000 homes and businesses and will test the impact of low carbon technologies, such as electric cars and solar panels, on the grid, in order to ultimately help British homes and businesses cut their carbon footprint, reduce their energy use, and save significant money.

London's EcoCar Spectacular and a great EV website
London played host to the UKs's first free EcoCar spectacular in the MAll last month. This was part of HRH Prince Charles's sustainability initiative “Start”, which promotes steps towards a sustainable lifestyle. The event featured cars and bikes and was opened by his “Garden Party to Make a Difference”. The startecocars website is well worth a vist

Top formula one designer unveils lightweight city car
Imagine a car so narrow that two can drive next to each other in one lane; a car so small and short that three can park in one parking space.
Now imagine that the car is built in a shed from glass fibre, recycled plastic bottles and hollow steel tubes, using just a fifth of the material required to build a conventional car.

EV support scheme for the North East
The regional development agency, One North East has created the Charge Your Car scheme, which will educate motorists about where they can charge their electric vehicles in their local area. To be launched on October 1st, the initiative provides drivers with tags to access charging points.
